Hollywood Homicide is not your typical good cop, bad cop film. Director Ron Shelton brings hot guys, car chases, sex, street fights and humor to the big screen. As the movie opens, a rap group is shot after performing at a club. Hollywood's finest - Joe Gavilan (Harrison Ford) and KC Calden (Josh Hartnett) - are brought in to investigate the murder and unravel the mystery. These aren't your average men in blue. The two have side jobs to bring in other forms of income. Gavilan is a real estate broker who is broke thanks to a bad investment, both financially and matrimonially. Calden is a yoga instructor and aspiring actor who has more women than he can handle. While investigating a murder and selling a house, Gavilan is hounded by Internal Affairs. Coincidentally, he is having an affair with a psychic who just happens to be the wife of the head of Internal Affairs. On the other hand, Calden is not searching for love as much as for his father's killer. Calden's father, who was also a cop, was killed by his partner during a drug bust. Instead of moving on, Calden becomes a police officer in order to find the missing partner. As is typical, the characters evolve as time passes, and well, the good guys always win. Hollywood Homicide truly has something for everyone with action and comedy. If you judge this movie by the preview, most guys might assume that this is a chick flick, but that would be wrong. Ladies, if you think you're going to see lots of shirtless hunks, well, let yourself down easy. Hartnett and Ford are a dynamic duo whose on-screen chemistry is worth the ticket price. The two complement each other well and throw punches at each other courtesy of the age difference. Hollywood Homicide is no summer blockbuster, but after a hard day at work or in class it provides a nice escape. Grade: C+
