Jim Carrey turns over a new acting leaf in the original story line of the new hit movie, The Truman Show. The Truman Show is a television show broadcast world wide, 24 hours a day, documenting the life of the title character, Truman.

Jim Carrey plays Truman, the unknowing star of the show that is actually his day to day life.

The corporation that produces The Truman Show adopted Truman. Everyone in Truman's life is an actor and all of his experiences have been scripted. The set of the show is the largest ever built.

Starting in grade school, Truman had the desire to travel. In order to lessen this desire the producers of The Truman Show wrote his father out of the script by a boating accident.

Speaking of accidents, crazy ones like a stage light falling from the sky and a radio frequency problem which enables Truman to temporarily hear back stage instructions fill the movie .

Twenty or so years later the actor who played his father manages to get back on the set and make contact with Truman. The reappearance of his father causes Truman to begin to question his world.

From this point on, the movie and the show is about Truman putting the pieces of the puzzle together to figure out that nothing in his life has been real. He must decide if he wants to remain in the fake but familiar world that has always revolved around him, or leave and join the real world.

The Truman Show is one of the most original story lines out today. If you love Jim Carrey because of the type of characters he played in Dumb and Dumber or Ace Ventura: Pet Detective you may not like this movie.

I left The Truman Show with a greater respect for Carrey's acting ability. If you are a fan of his, despite this movie not being a comedy, I think you will appreciate his versatility and performance.
